Renovating or Expanding? Your Security System Should Be Part of the Plan

Park Security Systems | Renovating or Expanding? Your Security System Should Be Part of the Plan | current customer feature img

A renovation or expansion can change the layout of a property, including the spaces, entrances, and coverage areas your security system was originally designed around. Even when the system itself is working exactly as intended, changes to the building can affect where equipment needs to be and what parts of the property require protection.

If Park Security Systems already protects your property, bring us into the conversation while the work is still being planned. We can look at what you already have, understand what is changing, and help determine whether any part of the security system needs attention before the project is complete.

When the Building Changes, Security Coverage May Need Another Look

Your system was designed around the property as it existed when the equipment was installed. Camera views, controlled entrances, intrusion devices, fire equipment, and other technology were selected and positioned according to that layout.

Once the space changes, some of those original decisions may need to be revisited. A new wall, for example, could affect a camera view that previously covered an important area. Other changes may influence where people enter the building, which areas need controlled access, or whether newly created space needs to be incorporated into the existing system.

You do not need to determine any of that yourself. Tell us what is changing, and we can help identify the parts of your system that may be affected.

Bring Security Into the Project Early

The best time for us to look at a planned change is while there is still flexibility in the project.

Park provides structured cabling along with commercial access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, fire systems, professional monitoring, and other security services. If new equipment, relocated devices, or additional connections are needed, discussing those requirements before construction is finished can make the security portion of the project easier to account for.

Bringing us in early also gives us a chance to determine what can remain as it is and where an adjustment may make sense. A renovation does not automatically mean your security system needs a major overhaul. In many cases, the most useful first step is simply understanding how the new space affects the equipment already there.

Planning changes to a property we already protect? Call Park Security Systems at (866) 695-6695 or contact our team while the project is still underway. We can review your system and discuss anything that may need attention.

Start With What You Already Have

When we look at a renovation or expansion, the system you already have gives us a practical starting point. We can focus on the areas affected by the work and determine whether the equipment serving those areas still makes sense once the new layout is complete.

Depending on the project, that review may include questions such as:

  • Will existing cameras still provide the views you need?
  • Are controlled entrances being added, removed, or relocated?
  • Does newly created space need intrusion, fire, or other security equipment?
  • Will the project require additional structured cabling?
  • Has the expansion created areas where additional video or monitoring should be considered?

The point is to identify those needs while they can still be incorporated into the larger project, rather than discovering them after the space has already been finished.

A Larger Project Can Be a Good Time to Look Beyond the Construction Area

An expansion may also be a useful opportunity to look at how the rest of your security system fits the property you have now.

Because we have worked with your system before, we already have a starting point. If the project changes how the building is used, we can look at the relevant video coverage, access control, intrusion protection, monitoring, or other systems and discuss whether anything else deserves attention.

That does not mean adding equipment simply because construction is taking place. If the system continues to serve the property well, that is useful to know. If the new layout creates a gap or changes what you need from the system, we can address it as part of the conversation.

Park also offers an Extended Service Plan for systems including fire alarm and access control, along with parts and labor, which may be worth discussing as your security needs change.

Tell Us What Is Changing Before the Work Is Finished

If you are planning significant changes to a property we already protect, let us know before the work is complete. We already know your system, which gives us a practical place to begin when reviewing how the new space affects the protection you have in place.

Renovations and expansions are ultimately about making a property work better for the people using it. Your security system should continue to make sense for that property once the work is done.
